Quinn, Browns look to build on win over Bills
Nov 18, 2008 - 6:44 PM HOUSTON (3-7) AT CLEVELAND (4-6), 1:00 pm ESTCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Brady Quinn has the Cleveland Browns' underachieving offense on the right track.
These are the significant numbers from Quinn's first two starts for the Browns: 71 passes thrown without an interception and an average of 29.5 points per game.
Quinn makes a second attempt at his first home win Sunday when the Browns host the Houston Texans.
The former Notre Dame star recorded his first career NFL victory Monday after Phil Dawson nailed a career-long 56-yard field with 1:39 remaining to give Cleveland a 29-27 win in Buffalo.
At 4-6, Cleveland is likely out of playoff contention, but Quinn has provided some hope after taking the reigns from Derek Anderson.
Quinn's statistics were less impressive than his first career start the week before against Denver. He finished 14-of-36 for 185 yards with no touchdowns against the Bills.
Still, Quinn faced more pressure against the Bills and has shown poise in his two starts while avoiding the critical mistakes that landed Anderson on the bench.
Quinn got struggling Braylon Edwards involved in the offense, connecting with him eight times for 104 yards, including a 12-yarder on the winning drive.
"Brady hung in there," Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel. "He got more pressure and different looks than last week, but he did pretty good."
The Browns still have major issues on defense, as they barely avoided becoming the first team in NFL history to lose three straight games when holding a lead of at least 13 points.
Rian Lindell had chance to propel Buffalo to victory, but missed a 47-yard field goal with 38 seconds remaining.
In Quinn's first start, the Browns allowed nearly 600 yards in a 34-30 loss to the Denver Broncos on November 6.
The Texans (3-7) could provide Quinn with an opportunity for more success, having surrendered 102 points during their three-game winning streak.
Last week, Peyton Manning directed four second-half scoring drives to lead the Indianapolis Colts to a 33-27 win over Houston.
Sage Rosenfels is 0-3 since replacing injured Matt Schaub as the Texans' starting quarterback.
The Browns will have to contend with Houston running back Steve Slaton, who rushed for 156 yards last week, setting a franchise record for a rookie.
