Resurgent Cowboys set to host Seahawks
Nov 27, 2008 - 3:29 PM SEATTLE (2-9) AT DALLAS (7-4), THURSDAY 4:15 pm ESTIRVING, Texas (Ticker) -- With their stars realigned, the Dallas Cowboys are poised to make a push for the postseason.
The Cowboys seek their third consecutive win since the return of quarterback Tony Romo when they host the Seattle Seahawks in their annual Thanksgiving Day game on Thursday.
Dallas had its best offensive output in seven weeks in last weekend's 35-22 over the San Francisco 49ers.
Romo, who missed three games with a fractured right pinkie and is still wearing a protective splint, threw for a season-high 341 yards and three touchdowns against the 49ers.
"I'm starting to get the feeling back where I think I know what I'm doing," Romo said. "I feel confident when I'm out there."
The beneficiary of Romo's return to health was bellicose wideout Terrell Owens, who hauled in seven receptions for 213 yards and a score.
It was the first 100-yard game of the season for Owens, who said last week that he needed to be more involved in the offense for the Cowboys to win.
"They unleashed me today. It was good to get my hands on the ball," Owens said. "Every week, I practice hard and try to perfect my craft. Regardless of the situation and how the games turn out, I've tried to be patient and take advantage of the opportunities I get."
Dallas, which is 25-14-1 on Thanksgiving, needs to capitalize on the opportunities provided by a soft spot in the schedule that features back-to-back games against two woeful teams from the NFC West.
Following Thursday's game against the Seahawks, who have absorbed four straight defeats, the Cowboys visit the Pittsburgh Steelers before a rematch with the NFC East-leading New York Giants.
Seattle, meanwhile, is playing out the string in coach Mike Holmgren's final season. Injuries decimated the Seahawks early in the season, wiping out the receiving corps and sidelining quarterback Matt Hasselbeck for five games.
Despite the dreadful record, Seattle has been competitive in its last three contests, dropping them by a total of 11 points, including Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Washington Redskins.
Hasselbeck threw a pair of touchdown passes but was intercepted near midfield with just over a minute remaining to end the Seahawks' hopes of an upset against Washington.
It was a very costly mistake; a huge mistake and it ended our chances," Hasselbeck said.
One bright spot for Seattle was running back Maurice Morris, who rushed for 103 yards on 14 carries and caught a 4-yard scoring pass.
