Texans' WR Johnson looks to victimize Raiders
Dec 16, 2008 - 3:56 PM Houston (7-7) at Oakland (3-11), 4:05 pm ESTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Oakland Raiders had problems stopping former teammate Randy Moss last week.
Things don't figure to get any easier when Andre Johnson and the Houston Texans travel to Oakland on Sunday seeking a fifth straight win.
Once a disgruntled Raider, Moss returned to Oakland and caught two of Matt Cassel's four touchdown passes in a 49-26 rout by the New England Patriots. The Raiders fell behind, 35-14, less than 18 minutes into the game and allowed the most points in the first half (35) since the 1970 merger.
Moss, who spent two largely unproductive seasons in Oakland before being traded to New England last year, taunted the crowd after each score by pointing to his name on his jersey.
Moss' former team became the first to lose at least 11 games in six straight seasons.
"We had some issues with communication there in the first half, getting everything matched up," Raiders coach Tom Cable said. "We're not on the same page in terms of communication and that's something we've got to fix."
While the Raiders continue to be one of the worst teams in football, the Texans are putting the finishing touches on another respectable season.
Houston has won four straight for the first time in franchise history after a 13-12 upset over Tennessee last week. Johnson was the star, hauling in 11 passes for a career-high 207 yards.
In his sixth year out of Miami, Johnson has blossomed into arguably the best receiver in the NFL. The 6-3, 223-pounder leads the league in catches (103) and set a career high with 1,048 yards.
"Andre was special," Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said. "The reason he's special is because I can move him all over the place and it doesn't bother him."
Johnson will be matched up with Nnamdi Asomugha, one of the best cornerbacks in the league who look to bounce back after struggling against Moss.
Johnson and the Texans are seeking their first winning season in the seven-year history of the franchise. The Texans host Chicago in their regular-season finale.
