Eagles go for fourth straight win vs. Redskins
Dec 16, 2008 - 6:19 PM Philadelphia (8-5-1) at Washington (7-7), 4:15 pm ESTLANDOVER, Maryland (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Eagles are making a late surge for a postseason slot but still need a lot of help.
The Eagles seek their fourth consecutive victory when they visit the slumping Washington Redskins on Sunday in an NFC East matchup.
Seemingly left for dead after a pair of losses sandwiched around a tie with woeful Cincinnati, Philadelphia has regrouped with three straight victories, including Monday's night's 30-10 thrashing of Cleveland.
Still, the Eagles are looking up at Dallas, Tampa Bay and Atlanta in the NFC wild card chase and need to win out and hope at least two of those teams lose at least on game to reach the playoffs.
"They understand what's at stake and you saw that in their effort," Eagles coach Andy Reid said of his team. "They played a very aggressive game on both sides of the football and on special teams, too."
Donovan McNabb completed 26-of-35 passes for 290 yards with two touchdowns and an interception against the Browns.
Since he was benched at halftime of a loss to Baltimore in Week 12, McNabb has thrown for 741 yards with seven scoring passes and one pick during the three-game winning streak.
"We're excited about where we are at," McNabb said. "We'll enjoy this win and we just need to move on to the next game."
Philadelphia will be looking to avenge a 23-17 home defeat to Washington in Week Five - the Redskins' fourth straight win at the time.
Washington's fortunes have turned in the second half of the season with three straight defeats, including last weekend's 20-13 loss to the Bengals.
The Redskins' fifth loss in six games all but KO'd the team's playoff hopes and prompted first-year coach Jim Zorn to say he feels like the "the worst coach in America."
"It's hard," he said. "I'm not sure I could ask any more of the players. I just keep asking them to give more and more. They really give it so much and it has been hard. ... I really feel like I have to look at myself. To me, I need to check my plan of attack. All of our staff - we need to reevaluate what we're doing to see if we're going in the right direction."
In the first meeting this season, Clinton Portis rambled for 145 yards against the Eagles, but he has not scored since October 5 and has rushed for just 131 yards combined in the last three games.
