Seguin nets SO winner as Bruins top Blackhawks
Oct 16, 2011 - 5:43 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Tyler Seguin scored the game-winner in the shootout to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center.Seguin scored with a wrist shot through the five-hole of Corey Crawford and Tim Thomas helped it stand up with saves on Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp.
Chris Kelly and Nathan Horton scored in regulation while Thomas made 27 stops for the Bruins, who snapped a two-game slide.
Bryan Bickell and Kane each had a goal and Crawford saved 35 shots for the Blackhawks, who had won their previous two.
This game featured the previous two Stanley Cup winners as the Bruins defeated the Canucks this past season while the Blackhawks downed the Flyers in 2010.
Chicago got the only goal of the first period when Bickell picked off an errant pass in the neutral zone and skated in on the breakaway, sneaking the puck between the pads of Thomas with 3:39 left in the frame.
Skating shorthanded, Boston tied the game on a 2-on-1 break as Rich Peverley skated down the right wing and sent the puck over to Kelly, who wristed it home past a stretched-out Crawford 1:33 into the second.
Kane, though, gave his team the lead back just 1:18 later when his wrister from the left circle beat Thomas cleanly.
Boston tied the game at the 7:56 mark of the third. Johnny Boychuk dumped the puck into the Chicago end and chased it down himself. Catching up to the puck in the right corner boards, he skated behind the net and as he emerged around the left side he sent it out to the left circle where Horton one-timed it home.
"It kind of seems like we're playing a little back lately and really not pushing the play," Kane said. "When you get that one goal lead you don't want to cheat and push too much, but at the same time it would have been nice to make it 3-1."
