Final
Rask, Bruins blank Kings
Dec 14, 2011 - 5:20 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - A new head coach didn't help Los Angeles much on Tuesday night. The Kings fired Terry Murray on Monday and replaced him on an interim basis with John Stevens, but it was Tuukka Rask and Brad Marchand who stole the show, as the Boston Bruins handed the Kings a 3-0 loss.
Rask stopped 41 shots for his first shutout of the season while Marchand scored twice for the Bruins, who have won two straight after dropping their previous two.
"We weren't that bad, we didn't give many second chances," said Rask. "Most of their shots came from he outside and were easy to see. It's just one of those games where we gave up a bunch of shots."
The Kings, meanwhile, have dropped five straight and have not scored more than two goals a game in their past nine contests.
"Obviously there's an issue scoring goals here right now," said Stevens. "Defensively we've been one of the better teams in the league. We need to start scoring goals because if we don't, we're not going to win."
Jonathan Quick allowed all three goals on 22 shots in the loss.
Boston scored 6:32 into the first off of good cycling that saw Zach Hamill sent a sharp pass from the low left side to the front where Rich Peverley had the easy tap in.
At the 7:43 mark of the second, a left circle faceoff win by Patrice Bergeron was drawn back to Marchand, whose wrister beat Quick.
The Bruins took a 3-0 lead 5:35 into the third when another offensive zone faceoff win by the team saw Marchand wind up with the puck at the left side and use a power move to get to the front and chip it in.
After making eight saves in the first, Rask stopped 13 in the second and 20 in the third for his 10th career shutout.
