Islanders down Oilers

Jan 1, 2012 - 1:43 AM Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Matt Moulson totaled a goal and two assists as the New York Islanders downed Edmonton, 4-1, at Nassau Coliseum.

P.A. Parenteau and John Tavares picked up a score and helper each for the Islanders, who have won two in a row following a three-game skid.

Evgeni Nabokov stopped 28-of-29 shots for his second straight win.

"Goaltending and special teams were huge factors in this game," said Isles head coach Jack Capuano. "You talk about a total team effort, one that we have to do every game to win, we did that tonight."

Sam Gagner tallied and Devan Dubnyk allowed four goals on 29 shots for the Oilers, who finished December having lost nine of 12.

New York effectively wrapped up the game with two goals in a 46-second span early in the second period. Parenteau ripped one home from the left circle on a power play with 3:19 gone, then Matt Martin made it 4-1 on a sharp-angle shot from the goal line to the right of Dubnyk at 4:05.

Nabokov kept the lead at three goals by stopping all eight shots he faced in the third, but Dubnyk made 16 saves to prevent a blow out.

"We became a little unglued as the game wore on. We became less engaged, and showed less energy," said Oilers head coach Tom Renney.

Tavares converted a Parenteau rebound from the left side of the crease 3:44 after the opening faceoff.

Gagner was credited with redirecting a Corey Potter point drive with his body inside the crease at 12:58, then less than 20 seconds later, Moulson was ruled to have kicked in a centering feed.

But it was 2-1 for the Isles when Tavares made a spinning dish in the slot and Moulson tapped it home from the left post with 2:05 remaining.
