Sharks continue home success against Caps

Jan 8, 2012 - 7:00 AM San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Patrick Marleau had a goal and two assists, as the Sharks rolled to a 5-2 win over the Capitals on Saturday.

Jason Demers, Brent Burns, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Torrey Mitchell also scored for the Sharks, who are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. Antti Niemi made 28 saves in the win.

Dennis Wideman scored and assisted on Joel Ward's goal for the Capitals, who saw their four-game win streak come to an end. They have not won in San Jose since 1993. Tomas Vokoun stopped 34 shots in the setback.

Demers put the Sharks on top five minutes into the second, knocking in a rebound amidst a scrum after a Jamie McGinn slapshot. Wideman made it 1-1 with a power play goal just 1:22 later, but landed in the penalty box for high- sticking towards the end of the second. Burns took advantage, driving home a slap shot from the blue line with nine seconds remaining.

Ward's first goal since November 5 tied the game 44 seconds into the third, but Marleau answered with a wrister past Vokoun just 16 seconds later.

This time the Sharks didn't relinquish the lead. At 8:51, Vlasic received a Ryane Clowe center-ice feed and peppered Vokoun with a pair of shots before driving home his own rebound for a 4-2 advantage, and Mitchell capped the scoring with an empty netter.
