Hall lifts Oilers over Senators in OT

Feb 12, 2012 - 12:30 AM Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Taylor Hall scored 17 seconds into overtime to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

Magnus Paajarvi, Ben Eager and Shawn Horcoff also scored for the Oilers and Horcoff had two assists. Nikolai Khabibulin had 39 saves for Edmonton, which salvaged a 1-2 road trip after losing in Toronto and Detroit.

"We pushed ourselves into the game. Kudos to our team," said Oilers coach Tom Renney. "We got it going."

Daniel Alfredsson, Milan Michalek and Erik Karlsson had goals for Ottawa and Craig Anderson gave up four goals on 40 shots. The Senators fell to 1-6-2 in their last nine after beating Nashville on Thursday to snap a seven-game losing streak.

"We played pretty good," Alfredsson said. "It's encouraging to see the way we're playing and skating. There were still a few lapses."

Hall led a rush in overtime, getting off a shot that was stopped by Anderson. Horcoff tried to whack the rebound in, but was also denied, before Hall came around the net on the left side and backhanded a loose puck into the open side of the net for the win.

Earlier, Alfredsson opened the scoring 4:36 into the first period on a shot from the point. Edmonton didn't tie it until 14:05 into the second when Paajarvi was in the slot for an easy rebound.

That was the first of three goals in the six minutes of the second period. Michalek made it 2-1 Ottawa, scoring through Khabibulin's legs on a break, and Eager tied it again with 68 seconds left in the period on a wrister from the left side.

Horcoff's goal came 42 seconds into the third period, and Karlsson scored midway through the frame to tie it.
