Wheeler sets in motion a Jets victory over Bruins
Feb 18, 2012 - 4:44 AM Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Blake Wheeler totaled a goal and two assists as Winnipeg bested Boston, 4-2, at MTS Centre.Bryan Little tallied twice and Alex Burmistrov once for the Jets, who have won two in a row and four of the last six. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 31 shots.
"There was a lot of good performances from a lot of players, pretty much everybody made a contribution," said Jets head coach Claude Noel. "I thought Little's line with (Andrew) Ladd and Wheeler was very good and really carried the offense."
Jordan Caron and David Krejci scored for the Bruins, who skidded to their fifth loss in their last eight. Tuukka Rask allowed all four goals on 25 shots in defeat.
Wheeler picked up the primary assist on Winnipeg's two third-period goals, both recorded by Little, which were scored in a span of 2:04 in the early stages.
First, at 4:16, Wheeler let go a fluttering wrister from between the circles that Rask kicked out -- but right to Little -- who took a second to settle the puck before firing home.
Then, at 6:20, Wheeler made several pivots in the top of the left circle before dishing across to Little, who buried the chance over Rask's glove for a 4-2 game.
Burmistrov opened the scoring just shy of the two-minute mark of the second period, fooling Rask with a high wrister from the right circle.
Caron countered at 6:10 on a similar drive from the right wing, but Wheeler put the hosts back on top with 4:10 remaining in the period with a low wrister that slipped between Rask's pads.
Krejci evened the game at the 49-second mark of the third.
"I'm not so happy about the second one because it went through me, but the first one it wasn't the hardest shot ever but it caught me in a good spot," Rask admitted of Winnipeg's first two goals.
