Blues edge Jets in SO

Feb 25, 2012 - 10:53 PM Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - David Perron netted the winner in the fourth round of the shootout to send St. Louis over Winnipeg, 3-2, at MTS Centre.

To start the final round, Andrew Ladd hit the space between Jaroslav Halak's arm and body. As the Blues netminder slid backwards in his crease, the puck dropped behind him, and only the quick sweeping motion of his pad prevented the disc from moving over the goal line.

Perron followed and beat Chris Mason with a high backhander from the left side.

"I'll take the exposure that we have for the win in the game," Perron said. "It's two points that we get tonight and not the best game we've played but at the end of the year two points is two points. They dominated us pretty much in every aspect of the game. Obviously Jaroslav kept us in it."

David Backes and Perron tallied in regulation for the Blues, who have won two in a row and four of six. Halak ended with 39 saves.

Blake Wheeler scored twice for the Jets, who fell to 3-0-2 on their current eight-game homestand. Mason made 14 stops.

St. Louis got on the board less than eight minutes in. T.J. Oshie won a battle behind Mason, wheeled in front and released a quick shot. The rebound kicked out to Backes for an easy tap-in.

Perron doubled the edge with 43.9 seconds left in first, when he redirected a Patrik Berglund cross-ice dish while driving the net.

Wheeler one-timed an Evander Kane rebound from the right side to halve the Jets' deficit at 7:19 of the second period. He struck again inside of five minutes left, chipping home a Ladd touch pass from in front.

Neither team found the net for the final 25 minutes of the contest.

"It's disappointing, that was a game we should have won. We feel like we outplayed them, the shot chart was pretty indicative of what happened today, and sometimes that happens in this league," Wheeler admitted. "We're happy to get a point out of it, happy to battle back against one of the better teams out west."
