Stars hold off Kings

Dec 11, 2011 - 7:01 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Trevor Daley had a goal and an assist, and Richard Bachman made 26 saves in his first career start to help the Dallas Stars edge the Los Angeles Kings, 2-1, at Staples Center.

Jamie Benn netted the other goal for the Stars, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Brad Richardson scored the lone goal for Los Angeles, while Jonathan Bernier allowed both goals on 28 shots in the Kings' fourth straight loss.

"We're losing games because of a lack of scoring," said Kings head coach Terry Murray. "We just have to find a way to finish on golden opportunities."

Dallas struck 13:35 into the first period thanks to a Justin Williams high sticking penalty. Michael Ryder raced down the right boards on a rush and slid a pass across the crease to Benn, who lifted the puck under the crossbar.

The Kings were able to knot the game at the 13:58 mark of the second period while shorthanded when Anze Kopitar poked the puck away from Ryder at the blueline. Richardson collected the loose puck and finished the breakaway by slipping the disc in between Bachman's legs.

But three minutes later, Daley took a shot from the slot that deflected off the left post before sliding across the goal line for the game-deciding goal.

Bachman stopped all 12 shots he faced in the third period to secure his first career win.

"I tried to keep it as simple as possible," Bachman said about his start. "When the buzzer went off to win the game, I was pretty excited. It's something you dream about."

Game Notes

Dallas improved to 1-1 on a season-high five-game road trip...The Kings fell to 8-9-1 at home this season...Dallas went 1-for-7 on the power play, while Los Angeles failed to score on its three power plays...The Kings have now killed 40 of their last 42 penalties...The Kings are 17-5-3 in the last 25 overall vs. Dallas.
