Filppula, Red Wings get past Predators

Dec 27, 2011 - 4:07 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Valtteri Filppula backed Jimmy Howard's 31 saves with a pair of goals, leading Detroit to a 4-1 win over Nashville on Monday night.

Pavel Datsyuk and Danny Cleary each had a goal for the Red Wings, who halted a two-game skid.

Jonathon Blum scored in the waning minutes for the Predators, losers in three of their last four. Pekka Rinne made 18 saves.

Nashville had won five straight at home, but the Red Wings grabbed a 1-0 lead on Filppula's one-timer from Henrik Zetterberg midway through the first and didn't look back.

Datsyuk willed Detroit to a 2-0 lead, forcing a wraparound past Rinne's pad with 7:08 left in the second and Cleary extended the advantage 13 seconds later, capitalizing on a Drew Miller steal with a wrister from the front of the net.

Filppula jumped on a rebound 5:22 into the third and notched the easy tally for a 4-0 lead. Howard was denied his fourth shutout of the season when Blum struck with a blue-line slapshot with 2:12 left.
