Blue Jackets down Stars to halt slide

Dec 30, 2011 - 6:33 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Rick Nash scored twice to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars.

Antoine Vermette and Fedor Tyutin each scored for the Blue Jackets, who snapped a six-game losing streak. Steve Mason stopped 36 shots in the win.

"It's fun to win in a place like this where it's a long travel, the fans are loud and they're a good team," said Nash. "We need to get things going here and this is a good start."

Vernon Fiddler scored the lone goal for the Stars, who have dropped three of four. Kari Lehtonen was tagged for three goals on 28 shots in the loss.

"It was fun to play, but it would be better to win," said Lehtonen. "I had an ok game, but their' goalie was phenomenal tonight."

Columbus scored just 3:50 in when Ryan Johansen took the puck around the net and from the left side threw it to the front where Nash wristed it home.

Dallas tied the game five minutes later as Fiddler tipped in a Radek Dvorak rebound for his fifth goal of the season.

The Blue Jackets took a 2-1 lead 2:10 into the second period when Vermette pounced on a rebound from a John Moore shot and slammed it home.

It was a 3-1 game 6:09 into the third as Nash had the puck along the right boards, skated to the front and snapped a quick shot into the left corner past a screen set up by Johansen.
