Big second period sends Preds past Blackhawks

Jan 22, 2012 - 6:35 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Kevin Klein, Colin Wilson and Sergei Kostitsyn scored in the second period as Nashville took down Chicago, 5-2, at Bridgestone Arena.

Craig Smith and Patric Hornqvist added a goal each for the Predators, who won for the 10th time in 12 outings.

Pekka Rinne was solid between the pipes with 20 saves.

"We had some good play from all our guys tonight," said Klein. "Everyone was working as a unit and communicating real well out there tonight."

Marian Hossa provided both tallies for the Blackhawks, who saw their three- game win streak halted.

Corey Crawford was pulled after allowing four goals on 17 shots in less than two periods. Ray Emery finished up by stopping five shots.

"We were working real hard out there tonight," said Crawford. "It was just really frustrating to lose this one."

Klein put the hosts ahead to stay at 5:15 of the second period when his bouncing dump-in from the left wing at center ice skipped through Emery.

It was 3-1 for Nashville at 11:14 when Wilson beat his checker on the left side and tapped in a David Legwand dish, and Emery was chased with just under four minutes remaining when Kostitsyn broke in alone thanks to a Mike Fisher pass and flipped a shot into an open net.

Hossa brought the visitors within 4-2 at the 48-second mark of the third, but Hornqvist provided the final margin at 3:08 as he deflected a Klein shot home from the slot.

Hossa put the 'Hawks on the board at 15:05 of the first, then Smith's power- play tally at 17:19 forged a 1-1 tie.
