Oilers top Sharks in shootout

Jan 24, 2012 - 6:35 AM Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Taylor Hall scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks.

In the fourth round, Hall faked to the backhand and was able to lift the puck past Thomas Greiss. Logan Couture tried a low backhand to extend the shootout, but Devan Dubnyk closed the pads for the win.

Jordan Eberle scored in regulation and Dubnyk stopped 44 shots for the Oilers, who snapped a three-game slide.

"It feels great right now, every win feels good," said Dubnyk. "We need to start having this feeling more and change things in here. But right now we'll take every win we can get."

Couture scored in the third period and Greiss made 17 saves for the Sharks, who have dropped their past three.

"Their goaltender had a hell of a night," said San Jose head coach Todd McClellan. "I thought we controlled the game most of the night, but we only came away with one point and that's disappointing."

Edmonton scored 6:50 into the second, after Jeff Petry sent a shot on net from the top of the right circle. The puck caromed off a Sharks player and went over to the left for Eberle, who buried a one-timer for his 18th of the season.

At the 5:37 mark of the third, San Jose received a five-minute power play when Ales Hemsky received a major penalty for kneeing Brent Burns, who left the game.

The Sharks took advantage of the opportunity. Dan Boyle threw a shot on net from the high slot that Couture redirected into the top of the net at the 6:23 mark.
