Wings win in final seconds to keep home streak alive
Feb 18, 2012 - 5:18 AM Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Pavel Datsyuk scored the game-winner with less than six seconds left in regulation, and Detroit won its 22nd consecutive game on home ice with a 2-1 decision over Nashville at Joe Louis Arena.Friday's victory tied the Wings with Boston for most wins on home ice in a row regardless of season. The 1929-30 Bruins won 20 straight to end that campaign and their next two to start the following year.
Johan Franzen provided the other goal for the Red Wings, who have won five straight overall. Joey MacDonald stopped 20-of-21 shots for the victory.
"We find a way," said MacDonald. "In regulation, overtime, [six] seconds left, we seem to find a way."
Nick Spaling tallied and Pekka Rinne made 29 saves for the Predators, losers of four of five.
Datsyuk was sprung up the middle of the ice by a Henrik Zetterberg pass, and the Russian winger did the rest, ducking past a pair of Nashville defenders and beating Rinne from the slot on the forehand.
Franzen beat Rinne with a shot through the pads at 12:44 of the first period, one-timing a Todd Bertuzzi feed.
Spaling tied the game with just over five minutes to play in the second, a goal made possible after Jordin Tootoo won a scrum along the end boards to the left of the Detroit net.
"We should've had a point tonight," said Predators coach Barry Trotz. "We were [six] seconds away from having a point."
