Fisher, Preds deal Canucks rare regulation defeat
Feb 22, 2012 - 7:12 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Pekka Rinne made 32 saves and the Nashville Predators handed the Vancouver Canucks their first regulation loss in more than a month.Mike Fisher had a goal and two assists, leading the Nashville offense in a 3-1 win Tuesday night that snapped Vancouver's 13-game run.
Sergei Kostitsyn and David Legwand also scored for the Predators, who improved to 8-0-1 in their last nine home games.
"The team's doing well right now. We're in a good spot," Predators forward Craig Smith said.
The Canucks had been 10-0-3 since a 4-2 loss to Anaheim on January 15 and were trying to match their season-high win streak of five games. But Roberto Luongo gave up three goals on 28 shots and Dale Weise scored the only Vancouver goal.
Rinne made 12 saves and Luongo had 11 in a scoreless first period. Fisher made it 1-0 on a power play 5:42 into the second when he ended up with the puck on the doorstep and stuffed it into the left side of the net.
Fisher led a shorthanded break with Kostitsyn later in the period and chipped a pass over to his teammate for a one-timer on the right side that beat Luongo and made it 2-0 with 6:44 left.
Weise found a loose puck in the slot and flipped it past Rinne, getting the Canucks on the board with 3:08 remaining in the second.
But Legwand put any issue of a Vancouver comeback to rest after Martin Erat tipped him a pass from just inside the blue line on the right side, getting it all the way to the slot for a one-timer that beat Luongo with 2:51 left in the game.
It was only the second time in their last five meetings that the Predators beat the Canucks.
