Selanne leads Ducks over Blackhawks
Feb 27, 2012 - 3:35 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Teemu Selanne had a goal and an assist, helping the Anaheim Ducks beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-1, on Sunday.Andrew Cogliano and Sheldon Brookbank also scored for the Ducks, who remained six points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Jonas Hiller made 18 saves.
"We all knew how important this game was going to be," Selanne said. "Fifteen days on the road, it's never easy to come back. The tank was pretty empty. We had one day off and one practice. I was very happy with how we played, especially the last two periods, we were really solid. That is a good feeling. We'll just keep battling."
Patrick Kane scored the lone goal for the Blackhawks, who have lost three in a row on the heels of a four-game winning streak. Ray Emery made 35 saves.
Chicago remained sixth in the West, two points ahead of the Sharks.
The Blackhawks scored on the power play at the 11:29 mark of the first period when Kane's wrister from the top of the right circle got past Hiller.
Cogliano jammed home a rebound with 19.9 seconds left in the opening frame to make it 1-1.
Brookbank's shot from the top of the right circle made it a 2-1 contest at the 12:31 mark of the middle stanza.
While on a 5-on-3 power play, Selanne found the back of the net on a one-timer at the 4:48 mark of the third.
"I think after the first, they pretty much dominated us in the second there and got a lot more shots than we did," Kane said. "I'm not sure how many shots they had the rest of the game after the first. I'm happy with the way we played the first and we kind of just let down after that."
