Cammalleri, Flames top Stars

Mar 27, 2012 - 5:14 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Mike Cammalleri posted a goal and two assists to lift the Calgary Flames to a 5-4 win over the Dallas Stars.

The game had significant playoff implications for both teams. Calgary moved to 85 points, two back of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

"I want them in a positive mind set, I want them focusing on the task at hand, let's not worry about April, let's just focus on each game," said Calgary head coach Brent Sutter.

The loss dropped Dallas to second in the Pacific Division and seventh in the conference as San Jose defeated Colorado on Monday to take over the top spot in the division.

Mark Giordano had a goal and an assist while Blake Comeau, Olli Jokinen and Alex Tanguay each posted a goal for the Flames, who snapped a five-game slide. Miikka Kiprusoff posted 35 saves in the win.

Jamie Benn scored twice while Philip Larsen and Mike Ribeiro both had a goal for the Stars, who have lost four of their last six games. Kari Lehtonen gave up all five goals on 35 shots.

"You got to learn how to win, the way we went about it doesn't look like we wanna win," said Dallas head coach Glen Gulutzan. "It really doesn't. They got to figure it out for themselves, they either want it or don't."

This was the back end of a home-and-home as the Stars took a 4-1 win on Saturday in Dallas.

It was 1-1 after the first period, but the two teams combined for six goals in the second with Calgary coming out on top.

Benn scored 44 seconds into the frame with a wrist shot for his 26th of the year to give the Stars a 2-1 lead, but Calgary scored goals 45 seconds apart to take back the lead.

The first came at the 9:16 mark when Ribeiro had the puck deep to the right of his net and attempted to clear it through the middle, but Comeau was there to one-time home the gift.

A bit later, a right circle faceoff win saw the puck go back to Anton Babchuk, who blasted a shot that hit off of Jarome Iginla and went to the left where Cammalleri slammed it home.

Dallas appeared to tie the game with just under six minutes to play as Adam Burish got the puck in as he fell to the ice, but the goal was waived off as he kicked it in.

However, Dallas did tie the game moments later on a rush play that saw Ribeiro finish it with a backhand of the rebound from the right side.

The Flames, though, scored a pair of power play goals to take a 5-3 lead into the break.

The first came with 3:02 left in the frame when Iginla sent a pass from the left boards to the high slot where Giordano beat Lehtonen to the glove side with a one-timer. Tanguay scored in the final minute when his one-timer from the slot hit off the glove of Lehtonen and went in.

Dallas got one back 5:24 into the third on the power play when Larsen backhanded home the puck in the slot during a jam in front of Kiprusoff.

The Stars, though, were unable to get any closer and Calgary was able to snap its slide.

Benn scored his first of the game just 26 seconds into the contest to give Dallas the initial lead and Jokinen countered with a power-play goal at the 6:53 mark.
