Flyers score 7 times in blowout of Isles

Feb 18, 2013 - 10:45 PM Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Claude Giroux scored two goals and had one assist and Jakub Voracek had four assists as the Philadelphia Flyers continued their success against the NY Islanders en route to picking up a much-needed, 7-0, road victory on Monday.

Danny Briere also had two goals and an assist for the Flyers, who ended a two- game skid and won on the road for the seventh straight time in this series. Matt Read scored one goal and finished with two assists in the victory.

Ilya Bryzgalov, playing in his 400th NHL game, made 19 saves for his 30th career shutout.

"It was a complete game today for 60 minutes," Philadelphia coach Peter Laviolette said. "It started in the first shift and ended when the horn sounded 60 minutes later. Real complete game. All three zones."

Evgeni Nabokov allowed all seven goals on 25 shots for New York, which saw its two-game winning streak come to an abrupt end.

The visitors struck first just 26 seconds into the contest, as a pass corralled off the skate of Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald to a wide open Giroux, who buried the puck in front of the net past the glove of Nabokov.

Philadelphia capitalized early once again, this time to start the second, as Giroux recovered a loose puck in the slot and ripped a shot on net that was deflected and stopped by a New York defender, but Read was there to chip in the rebound to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead just 15 seconds in.

Later in the period, at the 6:22 mark, New York's Kyle Okposo was called for a cross-checking penalty on Maxime Talbot. It was the Islanders, however, who looked to take advantage as Casey Cizikas led a 2-on-1 opportunity, but Bryzgalov stopped his snap shot which gave the Flyers their own numbers advantage.

Voracek then grabbed the rebound and skated all the way down the ice before working a give-and-go with Briere. Voracek passed back to the point to Brayden Schenn for a one-timer that found the back of the net and gave the Flyers a 3-0 lead at the 7:57 mark of the second.

Philadelphia registered its third goal of the second period for a 4-0 edge with just over five minutes to play. Read's wrister was stopped by Nabokov, but Giroux got the rebound behind the net, and patiently waited for the netminder to search for the shot, before easily putting the puck in the net.

Zac Rinaldo scored his first goal of the season to make it 5-0 early in the third period, and Briere added a pair of late scores.

"The bottom line is, if you want to score goals -- and I told them after -- some guys won't get double-digit goals, I'll share it with you right now," New York coach Jack Capuano said. "If you don't get to the hard area and if you don't get to the paint where that team (Flyers) got to tonight, you won't score goals in this league. Because everybody keeps you on the parameter."
