Panthers top Lightning in SO

Apr 3, 2013 - 6:16 AM Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Peter Mueller had the lone goal in the shootout to lift the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Jacob Markstrom had 39 saves andstopped shootout attempts by Teddy Purcell, Victor Hedman and Steven Stamkos for the Panthers, who have won three straight on the heels of a three-game skid.

"To me, (Markstrom) was the player of the game," Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen said. "There were some quality opportunities and Markstrom stood tall when we needed him."

Greg Rallo and Tomas Kopecky tallied, while T.J. Brennan had two assists in the win.

Tom Pyatt and Alex Killorn lit the lamp and Purcell added two helpers for the Lightning, who have dropped four of their last six contests. Mathieu Garon stopped 23 shots in defeat.

"We certainly outshot them and out-chanced them, but their goalie stood tall," Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said.

Although they were outshot 24-18 after two periods, the Panthers had a 2-0 lead, but Tampa Bay netted two in the first ten minutes of the third to tie the score.

Pyatt tipped one home as Purcell slipped a quick pass to Pyatt from the right circle and Pyatt tipped it home. Killorn put in a rebound five minutes later to knot the tilt.

The Panthers had a power-play goal in each of the first two periods.

Kopecky tipped home Brennan's slap shot from the top of the right circle at the 8:36 mark of the first, while Rallo scored in similar fashion as he nipped home another Brennan slap shot from the right circle.
