Fasth, Ducks blank Avalanche

Feb 7, 2013 - 5:20 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Viktor Fasth posted 31 saves for his first career shutout as the Anaheim Ducks took a 3-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

Saku Koivu and Sheldon Souray each had a goal and an assist, while Francois Beauchemin also lit the lamp for the Ducks, who have won four straight games.

"This is what you really want your defense to do in a game, those guys played great in front of me tonight," said Fasth. "Of course the shutout is special, but the most important thing is that we got the road win. I just want to do my best when I get the chance to play."

Semyon Varlamov was touched for all three goals on 20 shots for the Avalanche, who have been shut out in three of their 10 games this season.

"They locked us into the zone and in the second period we just couldn't seem to clear the puck," said Colorado forward Milan Hejduk. "They didn't seem to have too many chances, but they made the most of them. We didn't create anything tonight."

Anaheim got the only goal it needed just 6:20 in when Souray's slap shot from the high slot made its way through traffic for his fourth goal of the season.

The Ducks made it a 2-0 game with 4:21 to play in the first after Teemu Selanne threw a shot on net from the right circle that saw Koivu snap it home for a power-play goal.

Beauchemin's goal on a one-timer from the slot off a pass by Daniel Winnik 10:45 into the second period gave the Ducks a 3-0 lead.

Fasth stopped 10 shots in each of the first two frame, then finished the contest with an 11-stop performance in the third to cap the whitewash.
