Ducks top Blackhawks in shootout

Feb 13, 2013 - 5:50 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Corey Perry provided the game-winner in the second round of the shootout, as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-2, on Tuesday at United Center.

After both teams scored to start the shootout, Anaheim goaltender Viktor Fasth stuffed Patrick Kane's backhand attempt.

Perry then stepped up and rang a wrister off the left post and in to put Anaheim in front. Brandon Saad had a chance to extend the shootout, but Fasth was able to get his right pad on Saad's forehand chance to send Anaheim to its second consecutive victory.

Fasth stopped 28-of-30 shots to improve to 6-0-0 over his first six starts, becoming the first goalie to win his first six starts since Dan Ellis (with Dallas/Nashville) accomplished the feat from Feb. 18, 2004-Nov. 29, 2007.

Andrew Cogliano scored the game-tying goal late in regulation, while Ryan Getzlaf also lit the lamp for the Ducks, who have won six of their last seven.

Nick Leddy and Saad each scored once, while Corey Crawford recorded 29 saves for Chicago, which remains the only team in the NHL without a regulation loss (10-0-3), despite having its four-game winning streak snapped.

"We're up with a couple minutes left and we just get a bad bounce and they tie it," Crawford said. "I felt good but it just seems like I've got to bear down a little bit more in the shootouts."

After a scoreless first frame, Anaheim broke through while on the power play early in the second when Getzlaf's centering feed from the low right side of the net deflected off the stick of Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook before trickling across the goal line to make it 1-0 just 3:33 into the second.

Chicago answered with a pair of goals 28 seconds apart just past the midpoint of the stanza to take a 2-1 lead.

The first came on the power play when Leddy rifled a one-timer from the top of the right circle that sailed high over Fasth to even the contest at 10:17.

Chicago then jumped in front on a controversial goal. As he fell to the ice, Saad fired a shot from the left circle that Fasth got a piece of. Anaheim defenseman Luca Sbisa appeared to keep the puck from crossing the goal line before the net was knocked off its moorings, but after video review, the officials ruled it a goal to give Chicago a 2-1 edge at the 10:45 mark.

Crawford kept the Ducks off the board from there until Anaheim found the equalizer with just under three minutes left in regulation.

Ben Lovejoy flipped a shot on net from the right point that deflected off a body in front and landed on the stick of Cogliano to the left of the net. Cogliano quickly lifted the puck into the back of the net to knot the game at the 17:20 mark.

"I think it was just fitting for the kind of night we had," Cogliano said of his goal. "I was at the right place at the right time."

Chicago had a pair of power-play opportunities in the extra session, but Fasth turned away all three shots he faced to send the game to a shootout.

Anaheim improved to 5-0-0 when scoring first ... Kane had his five-game goal streak snapped, but did extend his point streak to seven games with an assist ... Anaheim finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while Chicago went 1- for-6 on the man advantage.
