Stars tally 4 unanswered, drop Oilers

Feb 13, 2013 - 6:03 AM Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Eric Nystrom sparked a three-goal third period with his first tally of the season, as the Dallas Starts defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 4-1, on Tuesday at Rexall Place.

Jaromir Jagr and Ryan Garbutt also the lit the lamp in the third, while Brenden Dillon added a goal for the Stars, who have won four straight.

Kari Lehtonen stopped 35-of-36 shots in the victory.

"Kari's been great," Dillon said of his netminder. "He's been our best player. Night in, night out he's been really great for us."

Taylor Hall netted the lone Edmonton goal and Devan Dubnyk allowed all four goals on 29 shots in the Oilers' sixth loss in their last seven games.

Edmonton stuck first with just over seven minutes left in the first when Hall ripped a wrister from the left circle that beat Lehtonen to the glove side for a 1-0 edge at the 12:59 mark.

Dallas answered early in the second when Dillon flipped a shot from the left point that took a strange carom off the end boards and deflected off the back of Dubnyk and in the net to knot the game at the 4:23 mark.

"It was a weird play," Dubnyk said of Dillon's goal. "It happens. Nothing I can do about it."

Nystrom then netted the go-ahead goal less than a minute into the third when his wrister from the right point deflected off the stick of Edmonton's Ryan Nugent-Hopkins before hitting the post and sneaking past Dubnyk to make it 2-1 just 44 seconds in.

Dallas added some insurance late in the third with a pair of goals just under two minutes apart.

The first came on the power play, when Jagr recovered a loose puck in the slot and wheeled around before rifling a shot past the stick-side of Dubnyk to make it 3-1 at the 15:25 mark.

Then, just 1:52 later, Garbutt charged down the right wing and held off a defender before cutting in front of Dubnyk and sneaking a shot inside the left post to account for the final margin.
