Ducks edge Predators in SO
Feb 17, 2013 - 6:45 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Corey Perry scored the winner in the shootout as the Anaheim Ducks finished off a successful road trip with a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators. In the third round, Perry faked to the backhand and slid the puck past Pekka Rinne. Gabriel Bourque had the last chance for the Predators, but he lost the puck while stickhandling, giving the Ducks the win.
Patrick Maroon and Matt Beleskey each had a goal for the Ducks, who went 5-1 on a six-game road trip and have won eight of their last nine games overall. Viktor Fasth posted 32 saves and has now won his first eight decisions of his NHL career.
"He's playing great and is a true professional back there," said Beleskey about Fasth. "He works hard all the time and it's showing in the games he's in."
Shea Weber and David Legwand scored for the Predators, who had won six of eight coming into the contest. Rinne stopped 20 shots in the loss.
"That's a real good team over there," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz. "They capitalized on their chances and we had a few bad mistakes on defense. Still, we played good at times and got a point, but couldn't pull off the win."
Nashville struck first at the 13:31 mark of the opening period when Jonathon Blum sent a shot on net from the left point that was stopped, but Legwand was parked in front to knock in the rebound.
The Ducks, though, tied the game four minutes later as Perry sent a pass out front from behind the net and Beleskey snapped it home for his third of the season.
Nashville took the lead back near the midway mark of the second period shortly after killing off a lengthy 5-on-3. Holding the puck at the top of the right circle, Weber unleashed a wrister that beat Fasth for his first of the season.
Anaheim came right back to tie the game as Kyle Palmieri's shot from the left circle was tipped in by Maroon for the first goal of his career .
Fasth stooped nine shots in the third and two in overtime, while Rinne made seven saves over the final 25 minutes to send the game to a shootout.
