Final
Ducks down Stars
Apr 4, 2013 - 5:37 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Getzlaf registered a goal and two assists, as the Anaheim Ducks downed the Dallas Stars for the second time in three days with a 5-2 decision on Wednesday at Honda Center.Teemu Selanne, Radek Dvorak, Kyle Palmieri and Andrew Cogliano each scored once for the Ducks, who defeated the Stars 4-0 on Monday in Dallas.
Viktor Fasth stopped 23-of-25 shots for Anaheim, which has won three of four overall.
Erik Cole and Lane MacDermid donated a goal apiece, while Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals on 26 shots for the Stars, who have lost three straight and sit four points back of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
"I thought all of the guys had a lot of energy and tried to do all of the little things right," MacDermid said. "We did that for the most part but they made some good plays."
Dvorak opened the scoring with a tip-in tally at the 11:44 mark of the first before the Ducks struck twice in a 5:05-span just past the midpoint of the second to grab a three-goal lead.
Selanne started the outburst with a power-play marker at the 11:33 mark of the middle frame before Palmieri cut in front from the low left side and stuffed a quick shot past Lehtonen to make it 3-0 with 3:22 left in the stanza.
Cole got the Stars on the board just under three minutes into the third when he one-timed a centering feed from Vernon Fiddler past Fasth, but Getzlaf answered with a backhander from the low left side at the 10:30 mark to push the margin to 4-1.
MacDermid's first career goal at the 18:36 mark gave the Stars some late life, but Cogliano found the empty net with under five seconds left to account for the final margin.
"I think scoring the first goal helped, and that power play goal really helped," Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. "It deflated them a little bit, but they came out in the third and certainly put us back on our heels."
