Fischer scores game-winner as Coyotes keep rolling

Dec 5, 2006 - 5:44 AM GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- The Phoenix Coyotes suddenly are playing some great hockey.

Patrick Fischer scored the game-winning goal and newly acquired goaltender Mikael Tellqvist won his Phoenix debut in lifting the Coyotes to a 3-2 triumph over the Nashville Predators.

Phoenix, which started the season 3-9-0, won its third straight and improved to 4-1-0 in its last five games.

Fischer netted the decisive tally at 8:40 of the third period when he redirected a pass from Ladislav Nagy past Nashville goaltender Chris Mason from right outside the crease.

Tellqvist, who was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 28, stopped 19 shots in his second start of the season.

Trailing, 2-1, Phoenix tied the game when Yanic Perreault sliced toward the Nashville net and poked Shane Doan's rebound past Mason just 28 seconds into the third period.

The Predators continued to struggle in the third period, as they have been outscored, 34-18, in the final stanza this season. Nashville blew a 4-3 third-period lead in a 5-4 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

Oleg Saprykin scored the other Phoenix goal, while Steve Sullivan and Alexander Radulov scored for Nashville, which lost its second straight after four consecutive victories.

Saprykin scored a goal and added an assist in Phoenix's 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

Radulov extended his points streak to six games in which he has five goals and two assists.
