Flyers match season high with ninth straight loss
Jan 27, 2007 - 8:56 PM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers keep finding ways to lose. This time, a fourth-line center beat them. The Flyers were dealt their ninth straight loss as Jason Krog slipped a shot past the glove side of Robert Esche 3:49 into the third period to give the New York Rangers a 2-1 victory.
Philadelphia, which has the fewest points in the NHL (27), matched its season-high losing streak set from December 2-23.
Playing his fourth game with the Rangers after being claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Thrashers on January 12, Krog scored his first goal since November 24. He had just one goal and three assists in 14 games with the Thrashers before being placed on waivers.
Krog helped set up his own goal with persistent forechecking behind the net. Adam Hall took control of the puck at the left side and slid it to the front, where Krog beat Esche to the glove side.
New York's Jaromir Jagr scored his 610th career goal to tie Bobby Hull for 13th place on the all-time list. Just 56 seconds into the second period, Jagr skated to the front of the net and deflected a shot by defenseman Karel Rachunek from the left point past Esche.
Teammate Brendan Shanahan is 12th on the list with 622 goals, the highest total of any active player.
Defenseman Joni Pitkanen scored Philadelphia's lone goal on a delayed penalty 3:24 into the second period.
Peter Forsberg, who is the subject of numerous trade rumors, skated into the zone from the right point and made a pinpoint pass across to former Ranger Mike Knuble at the left circle. As goaltender Henrik Lundqvist moved to his right, Knuble slid a pass across to Pitkanen, who stuffed the puck into the unguarded net.
