Cammalleri's overtime power-play goal lifts Kings over Ducks
Mar 2, 2007 - 8:18 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Michael Cammalleri picked a great time to pull within one goal of his career high.Cammalleri scored a power-play tally 3:17 into overtime, giving the Los Angeles Kings a 4-3 comeback win over the Anaheim Ducks.
Goaltender Sean Burke made 27 saves for Los Angeles, which is 4-2-1 in its last seven games.
"This was a game where we needed some great performances, and we got them," Los Angeles coach Marc Crawford said. ... "Cammalleri scored the gamewinner, and we had a workman-like attitude from everyone. Anaheim was very close to putting the game out of reach, but we stuck with it."
Cammalleri netted the winner after taking defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky's pass and sending a one-timer over goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov's left shoulder.
"Lubo (Visnovsky) gave me a nice feed and I just let it go," Cammalleri said. "We have a lot of respect for their team. We know that we have to play well against them, or we're not going to look very good."
The center has 25 goals in 63 games, one short of his career high set in 80 games last season.
Frolov, Raitis Ivanans and defenseman Jamie Lundmark scored for Los Angeles.
Ivanans sliced Anaheim's lead to 3-2 with four minutes left in the the second period when he took Dustin Brown's pass from behind the net and beat Bryzgalov.
"Ivanans' goal was big, because it came on the next shift after they made it 3-1," Burke said.
Lundmark tied the game, 3-3, at 11:11 of the third period when he deflected defenseman Jamie Heward's shot from the blue line past Bryzgalov.
"It's unacceptable," Anaheim's Teemu Selanne said of the Ducks blowing a two-goal lead. "We have to play much better, and focus on making the right decisions on the ice when we have a lead."
Dustin Penner, defenseman Scott Niedermayer and Andy McDonald scored for Anaheim, which is 4-1-3 in its last eight games.
Burke is 4-1-0 with 14 goals allowed in his last five starts.
"The guys have played hard in front of me every night I've been in there, so I'm not surprised that we came back," Burke said. "I'm definitely in a rhythm now."
Bryzgalov is 1-4-1 and has surrendered 20 goals in his last six starts.
"I thought I had the near side covered on the winner," he said. "I didn't see the shot. It's a tough game to lose when you're up two."
