Blue Jackets top Blues for fourth straight win

Mar 28, 2007 - 5:54 AM ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The Columbus Blue Jackets had too many Fredrik's for the St. Louis Blues.

Fredrik Modin scored twice and Fredrik Norrena stopped 19 shots as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated St. Louis, 4-1.

With the win, Norrena improved to 3-0-2 against St. Louis this season and ran both the Blue Jackets' and his personal winning streak to four games.

"I am playing well and I am playing with confidence - it is nice," Norrena said. "And the team playing well, and is confident - that is nice, too."

Columbus opened the scoring in the first period when Ron Hainsey redirected Geoff Platt's wrister for power-play goal at the 15:35 mark.

The second period belonged to Modin. Just 35 seconds into the period, the left winger, who earned his 400th career point in a 4-1 win over St. Louis on Sunday, took the puck deep in the Blues' zone, circled in front of the net without being touched and sent a wrist shot over the left shoulder of goaltender Curtis Sanford.

Modin's second goal of the game and 22nd of the season came at the 11:30 mark of the second period and prompted St. Louis coach Andy Murray to pull Sanford.

After receiving a pass in front of the net, Modin wristed a shot wide of the goal and sent Sanford sprawling to the ice. Before Sanford could regain position, the puck rebounded off the boards and onto the stick of Modin, who quickly batted the puck into the net for a 3-0 lead.

"I still have no clue why I did not get that rebound," Sanford said. "That whole play made no sense, but then, this game did not make much sense."

Sanford, who missed 54 games due to injury this season, was immediately replaced by Jason Bacashihua.

Rick Nash capped the scoring for Columbus with a power-play goal at 5:46 of the third period. David Vyborny had two assists in the victory.

Eric Brewer scored for the Blues, who lost for the seventh time in nine days.

"We have been reasonably good up until the last couple of games," St. Louis defenseman Barret Jackman said. "We are getting away from the things that have been good for us, getting a lot of traffic to the net and getting a lot of shots."

The teams end the season series with four wins apiece.
