Perry scores twice to lead Ducks over Senators
Oct 14, 2013 - 4:47 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Perry scored a pair of goals to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.Nick Bonino and Ryan Getzlaf also tallied for the Ducks, who have won four straight since dropping their season-opener to Colorado. Jonas Hiller had 30 saves in the win.
The Ducks set a franchise record with 56 shots on goal. The previous record was 54 on March 27, 2009 against Edmonton.
"We passed up a few shots, as well. That's the way we want to play," Perry said of the team's shooting outburst. "We want to shoot as many pucks on the net as we can."
Former Duck Bobby Ryan tallied the lone goal for the Senators, who have dropped four straight.
Ryan was selected by Anaheim with the second overall pick of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and became a highly-productive member of the franchise before being traded to Ottawa over the summer.
Robin Lehner made 45 saves, but allowed a pair of goals, while Craig Anderson gave up two goals on nine shots in the setback.
"You give up over 50 shots, you hang your goalie out, right from the start of the game," Senators head coach Paul MacLean said. "We're not very good."
Perry scored just 27 seconds into the game. Off of a faceoff, Patrick Maroon fired a pass to Perry, who sent a quick wrister into the back of the net.
Getzlaf scored at the 4:06 mark of the first period, hammering home a rebound of a Hampus Lindholm shot to make it 2-0.
Ryan scored with 48 seconds left in the opening stanza. Kyle Turris hit Ryan with a cross-ice pass on the left side of the net and the former Duck easily deposited the puck in the net.
Just over three minutes into the second period, Lindholm skated to the net on the right side, then dropped a pass back to Perry, who blasted a wrister past Lehner.
Bonino added an unassisted goal later in the second to account for the final margin.
