Hurricanes edge Ducks in SO

Nov 16, 2013 - 5:55 AM Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Terry scored in the final round of the shootout as the Carolina Hurricanes took a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.

After Ryan Getzlaf rang a shot off the right post, Terry skated in on net and faked to the backhand before lifting the puck high over Viktor Fasth for the win.

"I just told myself to go in, make your move and stick by it, whether it goes in or not," said Terry.

Drayson Bowman and Eric Staal scored in regulation for the Hurricanes, who went 4-0-1 on a five-game homestand. Justin Peters stopped 28 shots in the win.

Corey Perry and Dustin Penner scored for the Ducks, who have dropped the first three games of their four-game road trip. Fasth made 21 stops in the loss.

"I think we played a really good game today," said Fasth, who had been out since Oct. 16 with a lower-body injury. "We basically just gave up 20 shots and had a lot of chances for us."

The first goal of the game didn't come until there was two minutes left in the second period and it went to Anaheim.

Justin Faulk had the puck in his own zone and tried to clear it out, but Getzlaf picked off the puck at the left point. He then fired a pass over to the low right side where Perry wristed it in for his 12th of the year.

Carolina, though, was awarded a power play with 1:01 to play in the second frame after Cam Fowler was called for interference, and was able to tie the game as Alexander Semin skated through the middle over to the left circle before firing a wrister that was deflected by Staal into the net with 16.8 seconds left.

The Hurricanes made it a 2-1 game 3:01 into the third period as Bowman skated down the right wing, avoided a checker in the zone to get into the corner, then cut to the front and stuffed the puck in for his second of the season.

Just over four minutes later, the Ducks tied the game on the power play as a crisp passing play was finished off at the right circle thanks to a one-timer from Penner.
