Ducks bounce back with win over Kings
Jan 24, 2014 - 6:45 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - It didn't take long for Anaheim to shake off its first home regulation loss of the season.Frederik Andersen stopped 30 shots and Patrick Maroon scored the winner in the second period as the Ducks took a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings at Honda Center on Thursday.
Anaheim had dropped a 3-2 decision at home to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, its first, and so far, only loss in regulation at home this season as the team is now 21-1-2 in front of the friendly crowd.
After the loss on Tuesday, Anaheim forward Ryan Getzlaf said that the upcoming Stadium Series has been a distraction, but now the game is looming next as these two clubs will meet at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night.
"We're two very evenly matched teams, and we need to bring it on Saturday in order to be successful," Anaheim's Ben Lovejoy said.
Anze Kopitar scored the lone goal of the game for the Kings, who are in the midst of a four-game losing streak. Jonathan Quick made 19 saves in the loss.
"We came up short," Kopitar said. "That's something we have to learn from. We can't just give up soft goals and easy goals."
Trailing by a goal, Anaheim appeared to tie the game at 9:07 of the second when the puck went into the net, but Tim Jackman was ruled to have interfered with Quick and the goal was waived off.
However, the Ducks did tie the game less than five minutes later on the power play as the team worked the puck around and a scramble in front saw Dustin Penner chip the puck in for his 12th of the year.
At 17:53, Anaheim took a 2-1 lead as Maroon was able to wrap the puck in from the right side for his fourth of the season.
Andersen made the lead hold in the third, stopping all 10 shots he faced and helping his team kill off a pair of penalties for the victory.
It took just 3:13 for the Kings to take the initial lead of the game as Dwight King sent the puck from the left boards over to the right and Kopitar snuck it in.
Game Notes
The Ducks were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Kings were 0-for-4 ... The only previous meeting between these two clubs this season was in Los Angeles on Dec. 3, which saw the Kings take a 3-2 victory in a shootout.
