Ellis, Stars blank Ducks

Feb 2, 2014 - 7:47 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dan Ellis had 26 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Dallas Stars posted a 2-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.

Trevor Daley and Jamie Benn scored for the Stars, who had lost their previous two.

"We've been playing a lot better hockey lately. More so just sticking to the way that gives us success," Ellis said.

Jonas Hiller gave up just one goal on 26 shots in the loss for the Ducks, who were coming off a 5-3 win over Philadelphia on Thursday.

"I don't think we played really good the first two periods," Hiller said. "It just didn't seem to work out. We had some chances in the third, but Ellis played pretty well. We weren't able to find the back of the net."

The Stars took a 1-0 lead 5:03 into the second period. Cody Eakin caught up to the puck in the neutral zone and fought past a defender down the right wing. Driving to the net, his initial shot was stopped, but Daley was there to bang in the rebound for his fourth of the year.

Ellis made 14 saves through the first two periods before stopping all 12 shots in the final frame to keep the Ducks off the board.

Benn's empty-netter with 29 seconds to play, his 22nd goal of the season, sealed the outcome.
