Krejci's late goal lifts Bruins past Sharks
Oct 25, 2013 - 4:45 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - David Krejci scored the game-winning goal with 0.8 seconds left as the Boston Bruins took a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. In the final moments of the game, Adam McQuaid got the puck at the right point and threw it on net, with the puck being partially deflected by a Shark trying to block the shot. It rolled in the air and Krejci was in front to knock it to the ice and past Antti Niemi for the win.
"It was a lucky goal," said Krejci. "I tried to get a stick on it and it worked this time."
Jarome Iginla scored his first goal of the season, off an assist from Krejci, while Tuukka Rask stopped 38 shots for the Bruins, who have won four straight.
Patrick Marleau scored the lone goal of the game for the Sharks, who lost for the first time in regulation this season. Niemi stopped 15 shots in the loss.
"Yeah, we did play well again tonight, it's just a little mistake at the end," said San Jose forward Joe Thornton. "But we're playing good hockey and it's a pretty good hockey team that we played against."
Boston got on the board at 18:48 of the second period as a shot from the left point by Dennis Seidenberg went wide of the net, but it bounced off the boards and came out to the right side where Iginla was able to sweep it in for his first with the Bruins.
San Jose, though, tied the game just 18 seconds into the third after Marc- Edouard Vlasic's slap shot from the left point was stopped, but Marleau was at the left side to push in the rebound for his eighth of the season.
Neither side scored in the first period, but Rask was the busier of the two goalies as he made 16 saves to Niemi's three.
