Krejci, Rask lead Bruins over Sabres
Dec 22, 2013 - 6:09 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - David Krejci recorded a goal and an assist as the Boston Bruins topped the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 on Saturday.Krejci broke a 1-1 tie early in the second period and assisted on Milan Lucic's insurance goal in the third. Reilly Smith scored a pair of goals, including an empty-netter in the closing seconds.
"I think it was good, but not good enough," said Krejci. "You need effort and you also have to capitalize on your scoring chances. I felt like we had an OK game, and in this game, OK is not good enough."
Tuukka Rask made 34 saves to help Boston get revenge for a 4-2 loss in Buffalo on Thursday in the first game of the home-and-home.
Zemgus Girgensons netted the lone Buffalo goal, while Jhonas Enroth yielded three goals on 38 shots in the setback. The loss snapped the Sabres' two- game winning streak.
"I thought we made some really bad decisions at some wrong times," said Buffalo interim head coach Ted Nolan.
Boston opened the scoring midway through the first period when Smith slapped a one-timer past Enroth. Carl Soderberg received a pass from Ryan Spooner near the goal and fed a slashing Smith, whose power-play tally made it 1-0.
Girgensons' goal knotted it at 1 apiece with 1:06 left in the first period. Matt Moulson was all alone in front of the goal and tried to sneak a wrister past Rask, who turned it away, but Girgensons was there to tap in the rebound.
Rask's save on Moulson sprung a 3-on-2 rush for the Bruins, as Krejci drove home the eventual game-winner just 1:47 into the second on a pass from Jarome Iginla.
Lucic took advantage of Iginla's screen in front of the net and scored to make it 3-1 early in the third period.
Rask carried Boston from there, turning away all 14 shots he faced in the final frame.
