Boston tops Dallas

Jan 17, 2014 - 6:23 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Milan Lucic each posted a goal and an assist as the Boston Bruins took a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

Brad Marchand also scored while Chad Johnson made 32 saves for the Bruins, who had dropped three of four coming in.

"Our whole game had collapsed, but our game was good all-around tonight," said Boston head coach Claude Julien. "Much better compete level from everyone."

Jamie Been and Erik Cole scored for the Stars, who had snapped a six-game losing streak with a win over Edmonton on Tuesday. Kari Lehtonen gave up three goals on 40 shots in the loss.

"It was a mixed bag for me with pockets of good plays," said Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff. "We got some breaks that could have allowed us to win and we made some mistakes that gave them really good opportunities. We lost some wall battles that led to a couple goals and Boston came out tonight really determined."

The game stayed scoreless until the final moments of the second period, as Boston took a 1-0 lead when Krejci blasted a shot in from the right circle with four seconds left in the frame.

Dallas tied the game just 1:18 into the third on the power play as Tyler Seguin's shot from the left boards was tipped in by Cole as he got off the ice for his 13th of the year.

The Bruins, though, took the lead back two minutes later as Bergeron knocked a Star off the puck in the right corner and Marchand was able to pick it up before sneaking it in with a low shot.

Boston made it a 3-1 game on the power play at 15:46 when Krejci sent a shot on net from the high slot that was tipped into the net by Lucic in front.

The goal proved fortunate as Dallas got one back shortly after pulling Lehtonen for an extra attacker when a shot on net by Kevin Connauton at the left circle was eventually knocked in by Benn with 1:11 to play.

Bergeron, though, sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final moments.
