Bruins beat Lightning in SO
Mar 9, 2014 - 7:46 AM Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Reilly Smith scored in the seventh-round of the shootout to lift the Boston Bruins to a 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. After Richard Panik hit the right post, Smith skated in and used a head fake before drawing the puck to his backhand, then sneaking in the forehand for the win.
Johnny Boychuk and Carl Soderberg each posted a goal and an assist, while Daniel Paille also scored for the Bruins, who have won four straight. Tuukka Rask made 17 saves and stopped all seven skaters he faced in the shootout.
"We've been getting different guys from different lines scoring every night," said Boston forward Jarome Iginla. "We've been having a lot of fun out there lately."
Ondrej Palat had a goal and an assist, with Mark Barberio and Valtteri Filppula also scoring for the Lightning, who have dropped their past four. Ben Bishop stopped 29 shots.
"The last couple of games we've had a lead and let the opponents come back," said Palat. "Same thing happened again tonight. We take the lead, they score, we get the lead back then we let them tie it."
Tampa Bay scored 27 seconds into the second period while shorthanded as Rask came way out of the net to play the puck and Palat cut off the clear, putting home his second attempt for a 1-0 lead.
Less than four minutes later, it was a 2-0 game after Barberio blasted a shot from the high slot that went past Rask thanks to a screen in front from Nate Thompson.
Boston got one back at 6:58 as Paille caught up to the puck near the right boards and bulled his way to the front, sneaking in a backhand from the left side.
It was a tie game just 1:31 later as Soderberg finished off a short breakaway by deking to the backhand and slipped the puck between the pads of Bishop for his 11th of the season.
The Lightning, though, took the lead back just 32 seconds after that as a right circle faceoff win saw Palat flip the puck from the right boards to the slot with Filppula wristing the puck home for his 21st goal of the year.
Boston tied the game at 8:11 of the third, as Boychuk's big shot from the right point sailed into the net for his third of the season.
