Morrow leads Blues past Sabres

Nov 20, 2013 - 3:58 AM
Buffalo, NY ( - Brenden Morrow scored a pair of goals to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center on Tuesday.

Vladimir Tarasenko and Magnus Paajarvi also scored and Chris Stewart added a pair of assists for the Blues, winners in six of their last eight games. Jaroslav Halak made 23 saves in the win.

Tyler Ennis scored the lone goal for the Sabres, who have dropped two in a row. Ryan Miller allowed all four goals on 31 shots in the setback.

"I think our youth really showed tonight," Sabres iterim coach Ted Nolan said. "This is one of the better teams in the National Hockey League that can really expose your flaws. We knew it was going to be tough. We've just got to keep teaching, keep learning."

Ennis opened the scoring just 10 seconds into the game after tipping in Ville Leino's shot from the end line. Buffalo won the face off and quickly dumped the puck into the St. Louis zone. After the Blues recovered the disc, Leino forced a turnover and tried to put one in from the end line, but Ennis was there to tip it past Halak for the goal.

Morrow countered with the equalizer just under a minute later with a wrister from point blank range. Roman Polak fired a shot from the blue line that was blocked by Miller, but Stewart recovered the rebound and dropped the puck back to Morrow, who was crashing to the net.

"They scored a quick one there, 10 seconds in and it kind of caught us by surprise," Stewart said. "We answered back quick there and set the tempo for the game."

Tarasenko's power play marker with 36 seconds remaining in the opening frame made it 2-1 before Morrow's second goal of the game put the Blues ahead 3-1 with just under six minutes to go in the second.

T.J. Oshie found Tarasenko with a cross-ice pass and Miller was unable to recover in time to stop Tarasenko's quick shot in front of the net.

Morrow one-timed a Stewart feed off the post for his second goal of the contest.

Paajarvi's goal 6:10 into the final period accounted for the final difference. After Buffalo stymied a St. Louis rush, the puck trickled to Paajarvi at the left circle and the forward hammered it home.
