Sabres beat Senators in 10th round of SO

Dec 11, 2013 - 6:37 AM Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Zemgus Girgensons scored in the 10th round of the shootout to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Girgensons, the 19th shooter, beat Robin Lehner with a backhand and Ryan Miller stoned Erik Condra on the ensuing attempt to seal the win.

"We haven't had a chance to win a lot of games," Miller said. "I want to win some games. So, if this is going to be my opportunity to win a game for any number of games, I got to take it and give these guys some confidence."

Girgensons scored a goal in regulation and Miller made 35 saves for the Sabres, who won for only the second time in their last 10 games.

Milan Michalek lit the lamp for the Senators, who have had their last three games decided by shootout, losing two.

"I thought we came on the road and we got a point, which is good," Senators coach Paul MacLean said. "We're still gaining some traction in our game and a lot of things went good for us."

Michalek opened the scoring 6:25 into the first period after forcing a turnover in the Buffalo zone and dumping the puck off to Cory Conacher on a 2- on-1 break. Conacher snuck a pass back to Michalek, who was able to punch it into the back of the net.

Girgensons tied the game at 13:15 of the second period. After Christian Ehrhoff's shot was turned aside by Lehner, Girgensons recovered it on the goal line and fired a shot from a tough angle for his third goal of the season.

The teams will meet again in Ottawa on Thursday.
