Sabres down Jets

Dec 18, 2013 - 6:27 AM Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Moulson notched a third-period goal to give the Buffalo Sabres the lead en route to a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets at First Niagra Center.

Marcus Foligno and Matt Ellis also scored in the third to complete the comeback. Steve Ott lit the lamp in the second to help the Sabres snap a two- game skid.

Ryan Miller turned aside 25 shots in the victory.

Mark Scheifele supplied both goals for Winnipeg and Ondrej Pavelec allowed four goals on 31 shots as the Jets have now dropped four of their last five.

Winnipeg opened the scoring with two quick second-period goals. Scheifele skated through the neutral zone and into the slot to wrist a shot past Miller 1:02 into the second. Thirty-six seconds later, he notched his second after taking a puck off the boards and working his way into the right circle, where he wristed in his second of the night.

Pavelec turned the puck over after he steered a rebound over to the left circle, and Ott blasted it past him at 10:16 of the second for Buffalo's first of the night.

"We thought they would just fold up," Jets head coach Claude Noel said of taking the early lead. "Obviously that wasn't the case."

Foligno tied the game 50 seconds into the third. He received a cross-ice pass in the neutral zone and rushed into the Winnipeg zone. After banking a pass to himself off the boards, he retrieved the puck and wristed a shot for his fourth of the season.

The Sabres took the lead less than two minutes later on the power play. Christian Erhoff fired a shot from the point and Moulson deflected the puck past Pavelec for the lead.

Buffalo added another goal 13:38 into the third. Kevin Porter deked through the slot after tracking down a rebound and fired a shot that was batted out of the air by Ellis for his first of the season.

"It's a real big step for this hockey club," Ellis said of the win.
