Fleury shuts the door again as Pens silence Sabres
Jan 28, 2014 - 4:08 AM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 24 shots he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season, as Pittsburgh shut down Buffalo, 3-0, at CONSOL Energy Center.Tanner Glass, Chris Kunitz and Deryk Engelland lit the lamp for the Penguins, who recovered from a shutout loss in Dallas on Saturday to win for the fifth time in seven outings.
Craig Adams and Sidney Crosby added two assists each for the Metropolitan Division leaders.
Ryan Miller made 31 saves for the Sabres, who couldn't maintain momentum from a 5-2 win at Columbus on Saturday and lost for the sixth time in their last seven.
"The second period (is when) we decided to start working. The first. we were just in awe watching them do their thing," said Sabres head coach Ted Nolan.
Miller made 15 stops to keep the opening period scoreless and added four more at the outset of the middle frame, but Kunitz potted a rebound at the right side to put the hosts on the board at 5:44 of the second.
Engelland doubled the Pens' advantage at the 12:05 mark. He moved in from his point position, accepted a Glass pass, and beat Miller high to the glove side as the clock ticked below eight minutes remaining.
"It's always great to chip in. I see Sid, Geno, and those guys always doing it. To get a few from the bottom six is a big thing," Engelland said.
Fleury stopped 11 Buffalo offerings as the visitors enjoyed some push in the offensive zone, but only tested Felury eight times in the final 20 minutes.
Glass added an empty-net score with 28 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
