Price, Habs blank Hurricanes

Jan 29, 2014 - 4:59 AM Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Carey Price made 36 saves for his third shutout of the season in the Montreal Canadiens' 3-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.

Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher each had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens, who snapped a four-game skid. Brandon Prust also lit the lamp.

"We played very well defensively tonight," Price said. "We have a lot of guys sacrifice themselves blocking shots."

Anton Khudobin stopped 27-of-30 shots for the Hurricanes, who had a four-game winning streak stopped.

Prust made it 1-0 Montreal at 6:11 of the first period when he scored off a pass from Josh Gorges.

"Giving up the first goal was tough," Hurricanes forward Eric Staal said. "We know they've been struggling of late. We didn't want to give them any life."

Gallagher lit the lamp at 18:44 of the first when he chipped the puck past the goal line following a scrum in front.

Pacioretty scored at 1:41 of the middle stanza to account for the final margin. Andrei Markov gathered a Gallagher rebound and found Pacioretty alone in front for an easy goal.

It was the 22nd shutout of Price's career ... Carolina went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Montreal went 0-for-2.
