Blackhawks rough up Oilers

Nov 26, 2013 - 6:23 AM Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Toews had a shorthanded goal and Patrick Kane scored on a power play during a three-minute span in the first period, sparking the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

Andrew Shaw had two goals and an assist and Johnny Oduya also scored for the Blackhawks, who have won three in a row to improve to 3-1 on a seven-game road trip.

Corey Crawford made 24 saves -- including 11 in the third period -- for his NHL-leading 16th win.

Edmonton had won a season-high three games following a 1-9-1 stretch, but was down 4-0 in this one just 5:49 into the second period.

Justin Schultz scored the Oilers' goal and Devan Dubnyk gave up four goals on 14 shots before he was pulled. Ilya Bryzgalov allowed a goal on 13 shots after that in his Oilers debut.

"I just heard there was a standing ovation" on my first save, said Bryzgalov, who was signed earlier this month. "I was so focused, and a little nervous too, that's why I wasn't paying attention in that moment."

Toews scored his 12th of the season on a shorthanded breakaway 5:14 into the game and Kane extended his point streak to 11 games when he stuffed in a rebound on the power play 2:52 later for his 13th.

"Every game is a new challenge. Getting up early was the key," said Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville. "Obviously the shorthanded goal was big for us. It really put us in a good spot."

Another two-goal flurry in the second period doubled Chicago's lead.

Oduya's shot from inside the blue line on the left side got through traffic in front just 88 seconds into the period, and Jeremy Morin deked around Oilers defenseman Andrew Ference on the low left side to feed Shaw on his first goal at the 5:49 mark.

Schultz scored on a one-timer from the right circle at 8:08 of the second to get the Oilers on the board. Shaw got his second goal of the game and seventh of the season on a deflection with 1:58 left in the game.
