Final - OT
Stars top Red Wings in overtime
Nov 8, 2013 - 6:02 AM Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Rich Peverley scored the winning goal with 18.5 seconds left in overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.Dallas had tied the game with 70 seconds left in regulation on Cody Eakin's power-play goal, and won it with time winding down in the extra session when Peverley skated from the left boards to the top of the circle, where he fired a wrister that beat a screened Jimmy Howard.
"We were moving a lot in the zone. There was a lot of traffic in front and I don't think he saw it," said Peverley.
Shawn Horcoff and Jamie Benn also scored for the Stars, who went 3-0-0 on their road trip. Kari Lehtonen made 26 stops in the win.
Pavel Datsyuk and Todd Bertuzzi each posted a goal and an assist while Henrik Zetterberg added three assists for the Red Wings, who have dropped their past two. Howard stopped 24 shots.
"We really have to do a better job at home," said Zetterberg. "We have a lot of games at home this month and we have to take advantage of them."
After a scoreless first period, the Red Wings took a 1-0 lead at 7:44 of the second after a turnover in the Dallas end was picked up Zetterberg, who backhanded the puck to the slot from the left circle and Bertuzzi one-timed it home.
Seven minutes later, Detroit took a 2-0 lead on Adam Almquist's first career goal, a one-timer from the slot off a feed from Zetterberg that found the back of the net.
Dallas, though, got a goal back with 20.1 seconds to play in the second when Ray Whitney sent a quick pass from the right circle to the front of the net and Horcoff snapped in the forehand.
The Stars made it a 2-2 game at 4:08 of the third when Benn made a good move to get around a Detroit defender, then lifted a backhand past the glove of Howard.
Datsyuk, though, answered with a beauty goal of his own, as he took a feed from Zetterberg in the slot, slipped past the defender and wristed the puck into the left corner with 8:26 to play.
However, Dallas got a power play with 2:44 to play when Justin Abdelkader was called for goalkeeper interference. With Lehtonen pulled for a 6-on-4, the Stars were able to tie the game when Eakin's wrister from the right circle sailed past a screened Howard.
