Panthers end skid with shootout win over Wild

Oct 20, 2013 - 6:00 AM Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Huberdeau and Brad Boyes both scored in the shootout as the Florida Panthers downed the Minnesota Wild, 2-1, at BB&T Center.

Aleksander Barkov tallied the lone goal in regulation for the Panthers, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Tim Thomas made 30 stops in the triumph.

"When you win in a shootout it's a true win for your team," said Thomas. "You know, we needed a win, and we'll take it any way we can get it."

Jonas Brodin netted the only goal for Minnesota, which has lost three consecutive contests. Josh Harding registered 21 saves in defeat.

"We're playing great defensively and playing our tails off," said Minnesota head coach Mike Yeo. "You can see it's getting in the guys heads, because we're working real hard and not getting rewarded."

After each team failed on brief 5-on-3 opportunities during a scoreless opening period, the Wild opened the scoring 4:05 into the second. Brodin snuck a one-timer from the high slot through the five-hole of Thomas on the power play.

Barkov's one-timer on the power play from the right point tied the game 6:49 into the third.

The Wild failed to score with 79 seconds worth of a 5-on-3 advantage midway through the stanza.

Neither Zach Parise nor Mikko Koivu could dent Thomas in the shootout.
