Rangers hold off Panthers

Nov 11, 2013 - 5:05 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Brad Richards and Mats Zuccarello each scored in the third period to lead the New York Rangers to a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers on Sunday.

Derek Dorsett, J.T. Miller also scored for the Rangers, winners in six of their last seven games. Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves in the win.

Brian Campbell scored two goals and Aleksander Barkov added one goal for the Panthers, who have dropped nine straight and 12 of their last 13 games overall. Tim Thomas allowed all four goals on 29 shots.

"I believe guys have bought in. They want to turn this corner so bad," Thomas said. "It just hasn't happened yet. It's going to. We just have to stick with it."

Derek Dorsett tied the game with 6:02 remaining in the middle session. Brian Boyle found Dorsett behind the net and he wrapped around the goal and stuffed it home.

Richards gave the Rangers the lead 46 seconds into third period. Carl Hagelin forced a turnover in the Florida zone and dropped a pass back to Richards, who ripped a wrister into the back of the net.

Zuccarello's power-play marker on a 5-on-3 advantage at the 6:16 mark accounted for the game-winner. After Dmitry Kulikov was called for holding, Richards passed the disc to Zuccarello, who one-timed it from the right circle for a 4-2 lead.

"It's an honor to be out there on those situations and you want to do well in that part of the game, so it's nice to see that go in," Zuccarello said. "It's obviously a little bit of pressure to score, so it was nice to see it go in."

Chris Kreider was called for cross-checking, giving Florida a power-play with less than two minutes left. After the Panthers pulled Thomas, the Rangers were able to hold off a 6-on-4 advantage to seal the win.

Miller opened the scoring with his first goal of the season 9:49 into the game.

Barkov got the Panthers on the board with his power play goal with 27 seconds left in the opening session.

Campbell scored at the 11:20 mark of the second to give the Panthers the lead for a brief moment.
