Stalock makes 24 saves as Sharks blank Panthers

Jan 17, 2014 - 5:32 AM Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Stalock made 24 saves to record his first career shutout as the San Jose Sharks beat the Florida Panthers, 3-0, on Thursday.

"A win is a win on the road, but a shutout is pretty special too. It will be something I will remember," Stalock said.

Joe Pavelski had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who have won two in a row. Matt Nieto and Joe Thornton also lit the lamp.

Tim Thomas stopped 36-of-39 shots for the Panthers, who failed to build off Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Islanders.

"We weren't ready to play, I'm not very happy with that," Panthers coach Peter Horachek said.

Thomas kept the Panthers in the game early by making 21 saves during a scoreless first period.

Thornton scored on a breakaway with 50.2 seconds left in the second stanza to give San Jose a 1-0 lead.

Nieto lit the lamp at 4:44 of the third frame. Thomas stretched out to poke the puck away from Tyler Kennedy on a partial breakaway, but Nieto gathered the loose puck and slid it home for an easy goal.

Pavelski put home a rebound at 11:46 to make it a three-goal spread, and the hosts failed to dent Stalock in a comeback attempt.
