Ladd lifts Jets over Sharks in SO

Nov 11, 2013 - 5:21 AM Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - Andrew Ladd scored the tying goal in the final two minutes of regulation and netted the lone shootout tally in Winnipeg's 5-4 victory over the San Jose Sharks at MTS Centre.

Grant Clitsome had a goal and a pair of assists, while Dustin Byfuglien and Michael Frolik also lit the lamp. Ondrej Pavelec made 30 stops for the Jets, who won their second in a row.

"It's a big win, the way we won. We battled back with a late goal," Ladd said. "Pavs made some big saves for us and we had some key goals from a lot of different guys."

Dan Boyle scored twice for the Sharks. Tomas Hertl and Tommy Wingels also tallied for San Jose, which received 42 saves from Antti Niemi.

The Sharks lost their fifth straight game.

Patrick Marleau scored with two minutes left in overtime, but the goal was disallowed because Wingels was in the vicinity of the crease and impeded Pavelec's ability to get back in the net. Wingels pushed Pavelec to the ice as Marleau was given a direct path to the net.

"If you're a Shark you're questioning it, if you're a Jet you're agreeing with the call," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "It's a discretionary call that occurs in a game. He (Pavelec) was allowed to make the first save easily. It's the second one, it's the rebound. I don't know who has the right to that ice. I don't understand it."

Ladd started the third round of the shootout by putting a forehand past Niemi inside the right post. Pavelec then turned aside Boyle's opportunity.

Boyle scored on the power play with 5:56 left in the opening period, and Hertl made it 2-0 only 1:16 later on a breakaway off a long pass from Jason Demers.

Frolik made it 2-1 at 6:12 of the second, but Wingels had a great individual effort, skating in through the right circle to score 41 seconds later to restore San Jose's two-goal lead.

Byfuglien and Clitsome scored later in the second to tie the contest. Clitsome's goal, with 2:41 left, came on a shot from the left point.

Boyle's second goal, a power-play marker 3:59 into the third, gave the Sharks a 4-3 edge. Logan Couture delivered a no-look pass between sticks from the right side of the net to a wide open Boyle in front.

Ladd's one-timer from the left circle evened the score with 1:43 left in regulation.
